Laser Hair Removal in San Jose, CA

This laser procedure is approved for women and men, from teenagers to older patients. We can treat any skin type, including those with Asian and African American skin. The treated hair must be pigmented, either brown or black. Because the laser targets pigment, blonde and gray hair are not removed with the GentleYAG™ Laser.

The GentleYAG™ Laser is a safe and effective method of hair removal. The procedure is performed by a nurse at Clarity Medical Spa with supervision by a physician.

Most men and women of any age or skin type can enjoy laser hair removal treatments, but our licensed medical professionals will also evaluate you prior to treatment. Certain conditions or circumstances may delay or prevent treatment, including:

• Pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Active skin infections, open wounds, or cold sores around the treatment area
• Recent tanning or significant sun exposure
• Use of isotretinoin (Accutane®) within the past 6–12 months
• Certain photosensitizing medications
• History of keloid scarring
• Uncontrolled hormonal conditions affecting hair growth
• Active skin disorders such as eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area

After the patient has had the optional topical anesthetic cream applied for a few minutes, a cool gel is applied to the area being treated. Dark glasses are worn to protect the patient’s eyes from the light. With the patient in a comfortable, relaxed position, the GentleYAG™ handpiece is applied to the skin.

When the laser is applied, patients feel some stinging, similar in sensation to the snapping of a small rubber band against the skin. We can apply an anesthetic cream to the area 30 minutes prior to treatment for extra comfort.

Two to six treatments, approximately every two to four weeks. Patients with darker skin types may require more treatments.

The appearance of the skin after GentleYAG™ Laser varies from patient to patient, depending on their skin type and area treated. Most patients have redness and some swelling of the treated area with mild discomfort similar in sensation to a mild sunburn. This may last from an hour to a day.

Hair from the treated area may shed. Mild crusting may occur, but if the patient experiences extensive crusting or blister formation, they should contact their physician. Most patients are able to return to their usual activities right away.

A cool compress applied to the treated area can help reduce redness, swelling and discomfort. Patients may shave carefully as soon as the day after their treatment. You will likely notice treated hairs shedding for at least a week or two following your appointment. Gradually, it becomes apparent that some hairs are not regrowing and others are finer.

It is important to protect all your skin from the sun using a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day as well as sun-protective clothing.

The GentleYAG™ Laser causes significant hair reduction in the areas treated. After two to six treatments, most patients are satisfied with the results. Complete hair removal may not be attained. Touch-ups may be required from time to time.
